The Government has committed to establishing an independent Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission as part of its response to He Ara Oranga: Report of the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction.
The initial Commission will be in place from November 2019 to February 2021 while the permanent Commission is being established as a Crown entity.
The purpose of the initial Commission is to provide independent scrutiny of the Government's progress in improving New Zealand's mental health and wellbeing, promote collaboration between entities that contribute to mental health and wellbeing, and develop advice for the permanent Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission to enable it to make swift progress once it has been established.
The focus of the work will span all government and non-government contributors to mental health and wellbeing, including health and disability, social welfare, housing, education, justice, workplace relations and safety sectors.
The Head of Secretariat will provide strategic advisory support to the Chair and the members of the initial Commission, including leading the Secretariat to deliver the Commission's work programme.
What you will bring to the role:
Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi
Knowledge and understanding of the Government's responsibilities to the priority of equity
Extensive experience working with Ministers and stakeholders
Proven leadership and decision-making ability
Experience in developing cross-government strategic approaches to complex issues
Excellent relationship management skills
Understanding of contributors to mental health and wellbeing.
