The communications team is critical to the Ministry. We lead communications and engagement around the biggest changes to New Zealand education in decades. We are responsible for ensuring that we listen and respond to the views of the tens of thousands of New Zealanders who are contributing to these changes through the Kōrero Mātauranga |Education Conversation. We lead all engagement with the media, and manage all the Ministry's internal and external communications channels, publications, branding and communications design. This is an exciting, fast paced and dynamic working environment and we have a great team focused on putting ākonga/students at the centre of all we do.
About this role
The Kaitohu Matua - Chief Advisor, Communications Accounts supports the Senior Manager Communications Accounts to provide integrated communications services and trusted expertise to leaders and Business groups across the Ministry. You will provide support to the Senior Manager to lead a team of Business Partners, acting in this role when required.
Your considerable experience working in a fast paced and complex environment will be used to provide mentoring to team members and support the account management model of working - both across the Communications group and with the leaders of Business teams.
This role is a challenging and rewarding one, working with senior leaders across the Ministry of Education as well as with Ministers offices to ensure the Ministry delivers excellent communication to the people we serve.
It has a strong relationship management focus and requires high integrity, a strong spirit of service and expertise in government and parliamentary processes.
Key accountabilities are as follows:
· Provide professional communications expertise to support the Senior Manager and Senior leaders across the Ministry on current and emerging priority communications issues
· Mentor and coach team members to deliver excellent communications advice to meet the Ministry's strategic priorities
· Advise on the Communications Strategy to ensure full integration across channels, the Ministry and future organisational thinking
· Ensure all voices are heard and that communications reflect the diversity of our audiences. Proactively identify the opportunities to work in partnership with Māori
· Identify opportunities for proactive communications, innovation and continuous improvement
You will have considerable relationship management experience and be able to lead with influence across a large organisation. You will be able to think strategically across the sector and champion clear communications with a wide range of audiences. You will bring a knowledgeable, resilient and calm approach to stakeholder engagement. Through complex issues you will offer end-to-end communications advice, inspire collaboration, look for proactive communications opportunities and anticipate risk.
