This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to join the Mātauranga Māori curatorial team of Te Papa Tongarewa. Reporting to the Head of Mātauranga Māori, you will work with a team of Curators and Collection Managers in the Mātauranga Māori team of the Collections and Research Directorate.
Your role will involve working closely with the Curators and Collection Managers to strengthen and develop collections, research, scholarship, and Mātauranga Māori. You must be a consummate professional and confident working in a museum environment.
have a strong understanding of and experience in curatorial and collection management roles
be a strategic thinker, able to set priorities, with the ability to see the big picture
be able to participate in the delivery of projects in partnership with others, both across Te Papa Tongarewa and with external individuals, iwi and the cultural sector
be prepared to contribute to the development and delivery of cross-disciplinary projects and programmes aimed at diverse and cross-generational museum audiences
be experienced in collection research and writing, and be familiar with computer programmes including collection management software
possess excellent communication skills (te reo Māori would be an advantage)
have experience in the application of tikanga Māori in the museum context and a strong network among Māori and cultural sector organisations
be an excellent manager of your time, with experience in working within a creative environment
