The roles | Te tūnga

These roles sit within the branch that produces all of New Zealand’s premiere macroeconomic statistics including consumers price index (inflation), gross domestic product, and statistics about overseas trade. These are office-based roles, and we are considering candidates in Christchurch, Wellington, or Auckland.

The key focus of these roles is to lead, or support, the ongoing production of our existing releases. As part of your day-to-day you’ll be ‘in the detail’ working directly with data to produce our statistics. You’ll use your coding, statistical knowledge and problem-solving skills to clean, validate and analyse data on New Zealand’s economy.

We‘ll provide you with training to help you up to understand relevant methodologies, how to get from raw input data to compliant outputs, interlinkages of the data, and how to lead the end-to-end production of some of New Zealand’s key statistics.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou

This role would suit someone who can bring:

  • applied experience performing data analysis

  • a keen attention to detail – what looks right, what looks wrong, what’s missing?

  • an ability to relate the data to what’s happening in the real world – what is our data telling us?

  • a degree in economics, statistics, accounting, or other relevant field

  • a strong interest in macroeconomics

  • well-developed excel skills and experience in using SAS, R or similar coding languages for statistical analysis

Starting salary range depends on the level of experience of candidates. The relevant salary ranges are below.

  • Statistical & Data Analyst (Level 1): $73,048 - $85,939 + superannuation

  • Design Analyst (Level 2): $83,195 – $97,876 + superannuation

  • Senior Design Analyst (Level 3): $96,307 - $113,303 + superannuation
