Environmental & Wastewater Technician - Multiple Locations

We're looking for an experienced Refrigeration Technician who enjoys solving problems, maintaining critical plant, and working as part of a skilled engineering team. If you have experience with industrial refrigeration, HVAC systems, or ammonia plant, we'd love to hear from you.

Based at our Ashburton site on Seafield Road and reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving our refrigeration systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation across the site.

This is a permanent full-time position working a 44-hour roster, with an hourly rate of $40–$45, depending on experience.

Key responsibilities will include:‍ ‍

  • Complete planned and reactive maintenance work orders.

  • Commission new refrigeration equipment and systems.

  • Diagnose and repair refrigeration and mechanical faults.

  • Maintain ammonia and HVAC refrigeration systems.

  • Test and inspect newly installed equipment.

  • Work with the Site Services Supervisor to identify equipment requirements.

  • Order parts, materials, and consumables as required.

  • Monitor and maintain spare parts stock levels.

  • Replace seals, motors, and other worn components.

  • Provide recommendations on repairs, upgrades, and alternative cooling solutions.

  • Minimise plant downtime through effective fault finding and preventative maintenance.

About You:‍ ‍

You'll be a practical, safety-focused technician with strong mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting skills.

‍ ‍

Ideally, you'll have:‍ ‍

  • At least 3 years' experience as a Refrigeration Technician or in a similar role.

  • Experience working with industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems.

  • Ammonia and/or Freon refrigeration qualifications (preferred but not essential).

  • Brazing and soldering experience.

  • Knowledge of relevant New Zealand building and safety standards.

  • A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
