Hauora Māori Chief Medical Officer - Multiple Locations

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a visionary Hauora Māori Chief Medical Officer to lead with purpose. This is more than a leadership role — it's an opportunity to transform the health system and uplift communities through culturally anchored, clinically excellent care.

This is a full-time, permanent position (with negotiable clinical hours) and offers flexibility to work from the candidate's place of residence. National travel will be required.

As the National Chief Medical Officer within the Hauora Māori Service, you will join a team of clinical leaders providing strategic direction and be a clinical compass for our national efforts. You will provide expert leadership and advice across the organisation, championing clinical excellence and driving transformation programmes that honour Māori models of care and the aspirations of Pae Ora.

Your work will influence:

  • National clinical safety and support measures

  • Holistic models of Hauora Māori care

  • Clinical project leadership and system-wide transformation

Our Hauora Māori Service is a national force for equity and excellence. We bring together leaders across Medical, Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health, Mental Health & Addiction to design and deliver a coordinated, values-based approach to Māori health. We're not just improving care — we're redefining it.

About You

You're not just a clinician — you're a strategist, a connector, and a champion for equity and whānau, we are looking for a leader who will bring:

  • 10+ years of Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand

  •  5+ years in senior clinical leadership

  • Proven experience in strategy, stakeholder engagement, and system-level transformation

  • A passion for academic research and evidence-based innovation

You'll advise the Director, Clinical and the National Director, Hauora Māori Services on matters of clinical importance, and help articulate a bold, future-focused vision for Māori health.
