Te Kāhui Tika Tangata is Aotearoa New Zealand’s national human rights institution. The Commission was created to provide better protection of human rights in Aotearoa. Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the rōpū
Human Rights Case Advisors contribute to the Commission’s Information and Dispute Resolution rōpū (group). Our rōpū responds to enquiries and complaints of unlawful discrimination and broader human rights matters from members the public. Our team members come from a range of backgrounds, but they all share one thing - a passion for human rights, connecting with people and providing a quality service.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role
Human Rights Case Advisors provide information and support services to individuals and communities who have questions or are experiencing discrimination and broader human rights issues in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our service is mostly provided over the phone and by email.
Human Rights Case Advisors triage all enquiries and complaints the Commission receives, so their ability to assess information and understand when to seek advice or escalate matters is critical. They respond to a broad range of issues and are skilled problem-solvers who take ownership of their work as they provide relevant information and resources to a wide variety of people and communities.
Human Rights Case Advisors may be exposed to difficult and challenging matters - they are resilient. The Commission will proactively support and assist you in addressing these matters in constructive and meaningful ways.

We are looking for people who:
are passionate about human rights, have excellent communication and engagement skills, and have experience advising or supporting people
have experience engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and identities
are highly organised and can prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently to get the job done in a timely, reliable manner
are proactive and adaptable team-players
can communicate effectively both over the phone and in writing and can adapt to different needs and communication styles.
It is an advantage if you have experience managing a caseload of enquiries and/or complaints and applying legislation, although training will be provided.
