Te Hiringa Mahara - the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission - is committed to achieving better and more equitable mental health and wellbeing outcomes for Māori and all people in Aotearoa. As an independent Crown entity, we provide system oversight, monitoring, advocacy, and engagement with key stakeholders across mental health and wellbeing, grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
About the role
Reporting to the Director Māori Health, the Principal Analyst Māori Health contributes to and leads key areas of our Māori Health work programme. You will:
Develop organisational capability plans and lead and advise on key projects, including monitoring, advocacy, and engagement
Provide timely and robust cultural, strategic, and technical advice on strategic plans to improve outcomes for Māori
Support the development of monitoring reports, accountability reporting, and other major publications from a Māori perspective
Strengthen advocacy and engagement planning and implementation
Ensure the voices of whānau Māori and tangata whaiora are prioritised and reflected in our mahi
Maintain effective relationships with Māori health sector leaders, Kaupapa Māori providers, iwi, hapū, and community partners
This role is central to ensuring Te Hiringa Mahara honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advocates for Kaupapa Māori, mātauranga Māori, and te ao Māori approaches to improving mental wellbeing and hauora hinengaro.
About you
We are looking for someone who brings both cultural depth and technical expertise.
You will have and be able to demonstrate:
Cultural and sector knowledge
Strong knowledge of hauora Māori and toiora/hauora hinengaro Māori
Competence in te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, and te ao Māori
Understanding of whānau and tangata whaiora lived experiences
Broad networks across Māori health, Kaupapa Māori providers, Māori mental health and addiction services, Māori public health, and wider social sector agencies
Technical expertise
Strong skills in analysis, research, writing, and data interpretation
Understanding of Māori evaluation models and Kaupapa Māori methodologies
Ability to apply legislative, policy, and strategic lenses to mental health system issues
Experience contributing to or leading complex work programmes
Remuneration
The full salary range is $128,153 - $157,487. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
