Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
The System Leadership Team at Crown Law are looking for an experienced government lawyer to join us, working as Crown Counsel until June 2027.
The System Leadership Team is based in the Attorney-General Group and assists the Solicitor-General fulfil her system leadership role for the Government Legal Network. We leverage the collective strength of the government’s 850+ lawyers and support those lawyers to do their jobs in agencies.
This role will work with the Government Legal Network to support the provision of high quality legal services to government through:
· Producing legal advice and guides for government lawyers and decision-makers on both foundational and emerging legal topics;
· Identifying trends and risks across government, and assisting with legal risk management;
· Considering how legal developments impact the Crown across the board and how the Crown’s legal position might be shaped; and
· Keeping government lawyers up to date on key legal developments

This role is Wellington based and located next to Wellington bus and train station.

Crown Law’s functions are:
Supporting the Law Officers of the Crown
Leading the government legal profession
Overseeing public prosecutions
Providing legal services to Government
Crown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the Government in matters affecting the executive government. The services Crown Law provides include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law, and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, Crown prosecutions.

Mōu | About You
You will have:
· Experience as a government lawyer with 5+ years post qualification experience;
· A broad public law mindset;
· A commitment to supporting strong and enduring Māori Crown relationships;
· A high level of cultural capability and knowledge of the application of Te Tiriti and tikanga as it applies to the law and the Crown’s legal obligations;
· The ability to form strong relationships with stakeholders;
· The ability to deliver high quality legal advice; and
· The ability to obtain and hold a practicing certificate in Aotearoa.
The appointing salary range for this role is $138,615-$159,615 - based on skills and experience
