Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator - Nelson

We believe that if we want to be a world class Kiwi Company, we shouldn’t just employ people, divide them into functional departments and tell them what to do. Instead, we defined a purpose - powering better journeys, today and tomorrow - and go about achieving this by setting clear goals and expectations and embracing diversity of thought.

At Z, Customer Experience is at the heart of everything we do - our strategy, capability development and investment decisions. We're creating and continually developing products and digital channels our customers will love and that make their lives easier.

Job Description

We are looking to welcome a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator to the Z whānau based at our Whakatū Nelson Terminal.

So, what is a Terminal? A Terminal is a critical piece of infrastructure that receives petrol and diesel from Ships which is pumped into large storage tanks. Trucks then load at the Terminal and deliver to Service Stations and Truck Stops to meet the energy needs of our customers.

What does working at a Z Fuel Terminal involve? A typical day might see you recording stock movements, carrying out Safety and Wellbeing observations, assisting bulk Ship receipts into storage tanks, taking fuel samples to check the quality, inducting contractors onto site, and more. Our Terminal Operations typically happen during business hours Monday to Friday, however at times there is a need for overtime (afterhours and weekends).

It’s a great opportunity to start a new career, previous experience welcomed but not essential, as on the job training will be provided.

A career as a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator is a great option for practically minded people who enjoy process and procedure, knowing how things work and the variety of working inside and outside an office. If you are looking to join a small and cohesive team, we would love to hear from you!

You will have the opportunity to

  • Work in a close-knit team at the Terminal carrying out tasks such as: receiving petroleum products from Ships into our bulk tanks, tank gauging, product sampling & testing, product transfers, compliance checks and forklift operations etc.

  • Learn and comply with Safety and Wellbeing policies, standards and procedures to ensure the Terminal is run in a safe and reliable way

  • Train to become certified in ‘Shore Officer’ and ‘Permit to Work’ responsibilities

  •  Help supervise and coordinate maintenance activities and record completed tasks in Z’s maintenance system

  • Provide administrative support with the day-to-day running of the Terminal. This includes stock management, purchasing activities and ad hoc other administrative tasks

  • Participate and learn from regular training

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to work inside and outside an office

  • A practical and hands-on nature, basic mechanical understanding would be helpful but not essential

  • Good work ethic and a great team player

  • Computer literate with the ability to learn new systems

  • Capable of passing regular medicals

  • A full and clean drivers licence

And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Don’t meet every single requirement? At Z we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
