Starting salary: $96,307.00 to $128,000.00 + superannuation

The role | Te tūnga  

The is a 12-month fixed term position based in Wellington, working within our Technology Services delivery team. Our website (www.statsnz.govt.nz) publishes insights and data about New Zealand, and support others to use the data. It is a critical system for Stats NZ. 

You will gain more experience in this role working within an Agile delivery team. We have a great multicultural team, who are highly supportive of each other. 

As a Senior Developer you will work both on projects and BAU support for production issues. Our platform supports the timely dissemination of information and data releases to other government agencies, wire service providers, business, academia, and the public. You will fix issues, implement enhancements, and manage deployment on the platform. 

You will work closely with our business units, service providers, and our technology teams to propose and develop software solutions to enhance the environment and work processes following our SDLC, in-house standards, and best practice. You will provide mentoring and guidance to fellow team members within our delivery team. 

This role would suit someone who can bring:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Silverstripe CMS using the PHP development framework and have strong testing and debugging skills

  • Experience in developing applications in Silverstripe CMS, Common Web Platform, and the PHP development framework.

  • An awareness of technologies used for cloud-based web applications, using SQL databases, backups

  • Familiarity with modern software development approaches such as automated testing, test driven development (TDD), continuous integration, pair programming, code review and version control

  • Understanding of common web security risks and the corresponding mitigations

  • Your experience working under time pressure and to deadlines alongside strong attention to detail, a passion for quality and excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Knowledge / experience meeting NZ government web standards

  • Knowledge in other technical stacks (e.g. python etc.)

  • Your knowledge and experience, or willingness to learn about Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori.
