About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This is a permanent fulltime based national role. Candidates can be based anywhere in the country but preference will be given to those in the North Island, where the majority of the work is. You must be able to work office-based at any of our Ministry of Education North Island offices and be willing and able to travel as required as there may be frequent travel to schools.
The Weathertightness Programme Delivery Manager is a construction/property industry professional, who is responsible for developing effective relationships and trust with schools and other internal and external stakeholders. They will ensure that PMs, consultants and contractors are working effectively and efficiently to deliver weathertightness projects on time, to budget and to scope.
You will be a key member of the Ministry’s Weathertightness Team, supporting the delivery of a programme of over 200 weathertightness remediation projects. Following the School Property Group’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
You will work closely with other Weathertightness Programme team members and Property colleagues to support the delivery of a high volume, often complex, weathertight construction projects at schools across the motu but predominately the North Island.
Your key priorities will include:
Developing effective relationships and trust with schools and colleagues across the Ministry’s School Property Group
Assist in the management of school building weathertight remediation construction projects in a fast paced and complex programme
Problem solving and collaboration to deliver great results
Working within the National Weathertightness team, supporting them with effective delivery of the programme
Following and working within Ministry and Asset Management policies, procedures and guidelines to provide the right advice to stakeholders
Ensuring Ministry information and data is kept up to date and accurate.
Salary range: $118,371 - $143,760 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
To be successful in this role, you will have come from a construction/property background. You will need to be an amazing people person and be an excellent communicator with proven skills in building and managing strong, effective relationships.
As you will be working in a small, passionate and highly flexible national team, you will be someone who can work both collaboratively and autonomously. You will have the ability to manage your personal workload but simultaneously assist with the priorities and workload of the team.
You will also offer:
Experience with remediation and refurbishment construction projects preferably in a school environment
The ability to listen with honesty and integrity, to communicate outcomes that are fair and sit within the Weathertight Programme and Ministry’s priorities and policies
Able to work closely within a small team, taking ownership of tasks, being able to pivot and re-prioritise work quickly
Confidence in being the point of contact between the Weathertightness Programme and internal and external stakeholders
Outstanding written/verbal communication, and computer skills
Strong administrative, planning and organising skills
The ability to work on multiple projects at different phases
A strong understanding of Ministry of Education’s property budget policies
The ability to employ a solutions-based approach to problem solving.
A full, current driver's licence
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The School Property group manages one of the largest property portfolios in Aotearoa New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary state schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $33.5 billion. Our team is responsible for the portfolio, including school engagement, asset management, capital works delivery, investment planning and portfolio management.
We have a responsibility to invest in property solutions that demonstrate value for money while still delivering the right outcome for our schools and kura. Demand for new or improved school property across the country is high, and the way we meet these needs is to do so more efficiently. We have set financial and timeliness targets for our programme, and we're looking to improve our planning and delivery, as well as working proactively and collaboratively with schools and the construction sector. This will ensure that our property projects deliver value and are part of an affordable and deliverable programme of works.
As part of the response to the Government's decisions following the independent Ministerial Inquiry into School Property, the School Property group is now led by a Functional Chief Executive (FCE) for School Property, who reports directly to the Minister for Education. We also have put in place an improvement programme which responds to the Government's school property review recommendations.
