Manager, Practice and Performance - Napier or Gisborne

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga 

This is a full-time, permanent role, working across Hawkes Bay-Tairāwhiti, based in Napier or Gisborne. 

The Manager, Practice and Performance brings together a wide range of practice expertise to shape delivery that strengthens system performance (aligned with the organisation’s strategic direction). They oversee and maintain connections with other Ministry groups and teams to ensure practice integrity.

Specifically, your team will: 

  • Bring together through leadership, planning and performance, and advisory capability to provide a strategically focused team that informs how services and practice guidance are shaped nationally and delivered locally.

  • Work across the wider regional leadership team and in support of the Director of Education to provide support through strategic advice across the other regional functions which are predominantly focused on operational delivery.

  • Lead coordinated regional-level reporting, performance and advice – noting that the Operations & Insights Team lead operational related planning and prioritisation activity.

  • Ensure future services meet customer need at a local level by enabling cohesion of roles that are important to how regions plan and report on achievements.

  • Provide a cohesive point of coordination and support to national centres of excellence, such as the Curriculum Centre’s connection with Curriculum Advisers across the rohe

  • Build and enhance quality and consistency of advice and practices, identifying best practice at a national level.

  • Develop key relationships with internal stakeholders, including those in Te Pae Aronui and Te Poutāhū with responsibility for specialist functions at a national level.

  • Work closely across wider delivery focused teams and external stakeholders to support best practice and identify continuous improvement. 

Salary range: $142,856 - $214,284 per annum + 3% kiwi saver.  The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake 

You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification with experience across the education or government sector is essential. 

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector. 

You will also offer: 

  • People and operational leadership experience within a complex environment.

  • Experience in developing and delivering integrated functional strategies, work programmes and budgets.

  • Experience in leading and managing the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of functional systems, frameworks and processes.

  • Proven ability to coach and constructively challenge others to shift mindsets and foster collaborative action.

  • Proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities, and to inform functional decision making.

  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
