Full time Wellington based fixed term opportunity through to 31 July 2026.
The Principal Advisor – Investment Management leads the development, implementation, and application of the Ministry’s Investment Management Framework.
In this role, you will provide senior-level advice across capital, asset, and investment planning, influence system-wide decision-making, and support the Ministry’s response to Cabinet Circular CO (23) 9. You will work closely with finance, school property, and corporate teams to embed consistent, fit-for-purpose investment practices.
This is a high-impact role where your advice will shape long-term outcomes for the education system.
Salary range: $119,171 - $144,560 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
You are a senior advisor with strong investment, financial, or asset management expertise, and you are comfortable operating in complex environments.
You will bring a strategic mindset, strong influencing skills, and the ability to translate data and insights into clear, practical advice for decision-makers.
You will also offer:
Extensive experience in financial management, ideally in the public sector
Experience working in complex organisations and across multiple stakeholders
A strong understanding of investment management frameworks
The ability to use data and sceaniro analysis to infortm long term decisions
Excellent communication and relationship building skills
A relevant tertiary qualification
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate group is responsible for delivering essential Ministry-wide statutory and corporate functions. We enable the organisation to operate effectively and help fulfil the statutory and reporting obligations of Te Tāhuhu. The Capital Investments Team plays a critical role in supporting the capital delivery of school property projects. The team partners with delivery teams from project inception through to completion, providing financial insights, analysis, and advice at every stage. By ensuring strong financial oversight and alignment with strategic objectives, the Capital Investments Team helps drive successful outcomes and deliver value across the school property portfolio.
