About the Role 

As a Principal Advisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing strategies, services, and content that reflect the needs and aspirations of our audiences. You’ll work in and with cross discipline teams and Ministry wide to ensure our initiatives are well-targeted, engaging, and that ultimately help us achieve the education priority of ‘Developing the workforce of the future’. 

This is a high-impact role where your influence, advice and vision will help shape how we communicate with and about the education workforce. You’ll also provide expert advice on communication and media issues, supporting the wider Ministry communications group to deliver effective, audience-focused work plans. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead the development and delivery of the content strategy that creates an ongoing flow of stories, facts and information to raise the profile of the sector.

  • Collaborate across the Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga I Education Workforce Group to identify proactive storytelling opportunities and creative ways to raise the profile of the profession.

  • Provide expert advice on communication and media strategies.

  • Drive the creation of channels work plans that meet stakeholder and audience needs. 

Salary range: $118,371 - $143,760 per annum + 3% kiwi saver.  The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake 

We are looking for a creative, content producer who can bring together projects and initiatives under the umbrella of a strong narrative that positions the education sector as a career of choice. We are after someone who can take the vision of the group and help bring it to life in a sustained way through a ariety of channels that reach our audiences in an effective way. You will also be a strategic thinker who can support our leaders and help elevate our work programme.

You will also offer: 

  • Proven experience in strategic communications, media, or public relations.

  • Strong storytelling skills and the ability to craft compelling narratives.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence across teams and functions.

  • Experience working in or with the public sector or education sector is a plus.

  • Someone who works well underpressure and can manage multiple deadlines.

  • A passion for developing different ways in getting information out to audiences and making a difference in the education space.

  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct
