POSITION: Rōia Hapori - Community Lawyer (Senior)

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5

TERM: Permanent

STARTING SALARY: $90,000 plus bonus ($5,000)

 

The Pou Whirinaki – Services to Māori team are looking for a senior lawyer. Pou Whirinaki is a team at Community Law Wellington and Hutt Valley (CLWHV) that is dedicated to providing legal services to Māori. We are looking for an experienced senior lawyer with the right skills and knowledge to work alongside Māori to determine the right pathways forward. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing regular supervision to our lawyers and legal advocates, as well as provide one-off and ongoing legal advice and advocay to Māori clients in the Wellington, Porirua and Hutt Valley communities.

 

We are looking for someone who is:

 

- Passionate about working with Māori and providing pathways for better outcomes.

- Dedicated to improving access to justice for Māori and for whānau, hapū and Iwi

- Well imbedded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi

- Confident in their ability to work independently out in the community

- Able to build and maintain relationships with Māori, Māori service providers and Māori community groups

- Able to demonstrate the use of Tikanga Māori and Te Reo Māori in their work

- Flexible with their location of work arrangements and is able to spread their work week across multiple locations.

- Is able to drive and holds a minimum of a Restricted Driver License.
