He angitūtanga: About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Advisor to join our Learner & Investment Outcomes team for a fixed term through to 30 June 2027. The team's focus is to ensure TEC has the operational strategies and plans it needs to deliver on its investment and capability building function, including achieving one of TEC's long-term strategic goals around equity of educational outcomes for all learners.
Helping to develop and communicate our strategic priorities for our annual $2.8 billion investment round.
Contributing to and at times leading learner and investment outcomes projects which actively shape and influence the tertiary education and careers system to achieve our longer-term strategic goals and support better learner outcomes.
Using data and information from our customers - learners, industry bodies, education providers and others in the public sector - to develop implementable strategies.
Engaging at senior levels across the TEC and with other agencies such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

The team has close links across the business to the people, teams, projects and functions that are critical to driving success through our careers and investment levers. As a Senior Advisor you will support work programmes internally and externally. Your relationships with colleagues and stakeholders will be the key to your success, along with your ability to think strategically. We are looking for someone who will bring the following:
Strategy or implementation experience at a Senior level - ideally you can demonstrate your contribution to successful public sector projects.
Stakeholder management skills that enable you to get the most out of interactions with colleagues and customers.
Ability to select and synthesize data and information to support the development of strategies and options.
Knowledge of public policy and the tertiary education and careers systems.
Influencing skills to obtain support from key stakeholders of the project
Strong communication skills, particularly writing, to keep team members and stakeholders informed of key developments, program decisions, issues, and changes

At TEC we are committed to supporting a range of flexible working arrangements to help staff manage their work and personal commitments, we also expect team members to be in the office at least three days per week to help collaboration. As this is a Wellington‑based role unfortunately, we're unable to progress applications from candidates who cannot meet this requirement.
The recruitment range for this position starts from $93,327 up to $109,797 + 3% KiwiSaver depending on demonstrable skills and experience. (Appointment in range will be based on our assessment of the skills and experience you bring to the role)
