Starting salary: $162,436 mid-range to $186,802 + superannuation

The role | Te tūnga   This role is permanent, based in Wellington. The Senior Manager, Executive and Government Relations position requires an experienced leader where your people are your priority and are aware of this first and foremost. You'll provide your people with the context and then empower them to do their best work.

In this position you will lead the Executive and Government Relations function, providing expert advice and strategic support to the Chief Executive and Government Statistician, Executive Leadership team, and the wider organisation. You'll coach, develop, and manage a team of advisors, including principal advisors and senior advisors, to perform at the highest professional standards and deliver high quality results.

The position sits within the Office of the Chief Executive, where you'll be part of a leadership team that drives effective delivery and the proactive management of Stats NZ's engagement with Ministers and key central agencies.  

There is a team of approximately 9 staff, and you will be a committed leader - engaging, coaching, developing and inspiring your team towards high performance.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou   

You're someone who enjoys being kept on their toes and is comfortable leading and delivering through ambiguity. You understand where established practices are necessary, but equally, where there is scope to challenge, innovate and improve

It is a given that you will be a skilled people leader with coaching skills. This role would suit someone who can also bring: 

  • Expert knowledge of machinery of government and related processes and procedures

  • The ability to use your experience to provide strategic advice at pace across a wide range of complex issues

  • Proven experience building strong and effective working relationships internally and externally

  • A reputation as someone who can 'get things done' while maintaining a strategic perspective

  • Excellent relationship skills to build trust at all levels as an influential Senior Manager 

  • Enthusiasm and passion about leading an integral part of Stats NZ.
