We are seeking applications from experienced and motivated Senior Solicitors (Rōia Matua) to join our legal team at Te Tai Ōhanga The Treasury.

We are looking for qualified candidates with at least 5 years prior legal experience across a range of legal backgrounds, who can provide legal advice on complex matters and are interested in broadening their legal experience. 

The Treasury legal team advises across a broad range of subject areas relevant to the Treasury’s work, including on commercial transactions, finance and capital markets, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, complex statutory regimes and across general public and commercial law matters.

As a Senior Solicitor, you will be responsible for working independently as well as collaboratively with other legal colleagues and client teams to provide solutions-focussed expert advice to a diverse client base.  We are looking for candidates who:

  • can bring strategic thinking, sound judgment, a proactive approach to problem-solving and client service,

  • provide advice based on organisational risk tolerance settings and be comfortable operating in environments that may be ambiguous or evolving.

  • translate complex legal issues into clear, plain language tailored to diverse audiences, ensuring advice is accessible and actionable

  • strategic agility and political awareness, with the ability to anticipate issues and provide sound advice in a complex and often evolving environment

  • support the development ofother team members.
