So, when we are talking about disability – what does this mean? You could work with a person who has an intellectual and/or physical impairment, brain injury, alcohol related dementia and other conditions such as Huntington’s or multiple sclerosis.

N.B. Disability Support Services are part of Health New Zealand l Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough; however, we are not a medical/clinical service.  We are a community-based disability support service focused on quality of life Enabling Good Lives Principles.

We usually work on a fixed fortnightly roster pattern and try to give everyone at least one weekend per fortnight off although this is not always possible.  We have permanent full-time, part time, flexi, casual, sleepovers (attached to afternoon shifts) and awake roles available for you to apply for. 

Your hourly rate will be $23.15 to $28.25 (from 1 April 24) dependent upon your qualifications as recognised under the Care and Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlement Act 2017.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Have a sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm

  • Are patient and kind, friendly and helpful

  • Have good social skills and the ability to relate well to others

  • Have the ability to understand non-verbal behaviours

  • Have good written and spoken language skills in English and/or Te Reo.

  • Have basic maths and computing knowledge

  • Have confidence in assisting with personal cares

  • Have a current full NZ driver’s licence (confident driving both automatic and manual vehicles).

  • Have NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2 to 4) or equivalent (preferred), or the willingness to complete this level of study in the workplace. 

International applicants must have a valid visa to work in New Zealand, at the time of applying.

Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks - you must declare any convictions and/or pending charges on your application form. This will include checks under the Children Act 2014 and may include CYRAS Vetting via Oranga Tamariki for some roles.
