This is a Fixed Term Psychologist role until 10th April 2026, based in our Maungawhau | Mount Eden office. 

The role of the Psychologist is to provide effective, efficient and equitable psychological services for the benefit of children and young people with additional learning needs in accordance with the goals, objectives and policies of the Ministry of Education. 

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga (Southern) Group in the Ministry. We ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. 

Work closely with parents, caregivers, teachers and other specialists to help them support children with the development of speech, language and communication skills. Understanding the impact of children and young people’s speech and language difficulties in the context of their home, school and community. 

Successful candidates should be internationally recognised for their excellence in research and/or societal impact and must have a strong or emerging track record of conducting research that drives meaningful scientific and/or societal change. As a Psychologist you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team by:  

Enhancing inclusive practices in early learning services, schools and other educational settings

Providing professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families and building the capacity of those who are best placed to support the learning of children and young people

As a Special Education Advisor, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by doing the following: 

Working collaboratively with a team around the child, including educators, parents, caregivers and whānau, to enhance understanding about the child and their behaviours.

Collaboratively develop, implement, and monitor an effective personalised learning plan. 

As the Hauora Connector Māori, you will play a vital role in advancing the wellbeing, achievement, and holistic success of tauira Māori at the University. Guided by kaupapa Māori values, you will foster a culturally safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where tauira Māori feel a strong sense of belonging, connection, and support.

This is a 6-month Fixed Term role based in Wellington. The role is complex, interesting and varied and will focus on “big picture” analysis and advice.
