Career Development Consultant - International | Hamilton

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

As a counsellor, coach and motivator, you will inspire students and graduates through your expert knowledge in the careers and employability space, through quality career coaching and exceptional service delivery. While this role has a specific Pacific International focus, you will be expected to work across all student cohorts.

Your knowledge in career development within the education, public service and/or graduate recruitment field will allow you to assist graduates in their studies, build career capability and increase opportunities to enhance their employability. This is a service orientated role with a main focus on international students providing the autonomy for you to develop and implement programmes in career development and guidance. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the local job markets, in particular those issues affecting international students with the flexibility to work across all student cohorts.

This is a fixed term position for one year from June 2024 to cover maternity leave.  Salary will be in the range of $79,802 to $91,268 per year, prorated, based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based on our Hillcrest Campus.

You will be passionate about creating future-ready students within a supportive and committed team. Resourceful and confident you will be predominately focused on international students as you provide both virtual and in person support to individuals and large groups. You will be student focused with the ability to build and maintain constructive and collegial relationships and a willingness to work collaboratively across all University stakeholders.  You will understand the NZ job market and the issues our Pacific international students may face when entering the workforce including any specific cultural or disability needs.

Your professional background will be enhanced by your postgraduate qualification in Career Development, Career Guidance or a related field such as; human resources, education, social work, psychology, training and development or counselling.

At the beginning of 2024 the Employability Hub was created, bringing the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Central Unit and the Career and Employability team together with a view to enabling the University to offer students a more holistic and integrated approach to employability.

Career and Employability Services are responsible for determining the career development needs of the students and to work with work-integrated learning options, school and student services, key employers, and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative career development programmes and services with the aim to enhance the employability of our students and graduates and to create job ready students.
