Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to come onboard as our Kaiārahi Wheako Manuhiri | Manager, Visitor Experience to lead a team responsible for delivering exceptional Visitor Experience hosting, touring, retail, and commercial activity across multiple sites. The successful candidate will be a key member of our wider leadership team and will work closely with our Executive Leadership Team to manage and monitor their programme of work and connect with others to ensure the smooth delivery of their accountabilities.

Our ideal candidate will;

  • Have experience leading and managing a team responsible for delivering exceptional visitor service hosting, touring, retail, and commercial activity across multiple sites.

    Provide oversight of all activities across our experiences and offerings, focusing attention on ensuring the daily organizational level activities are aligned to our purpose and strategy.

  • Seamlessly partner with our Commercial team to implement our commercial offerings, demonstrating a one-team approach across the two functions.

  • Collaborate and enable discussions with key portfolio holders across the organization to ensure your people planning and group roster effectively supports the many events, programs, and activities we run.

  • Optimize opportunities to ensure a Māori dimension is at the heart of the experiences we offer, seeking opportunities to routinely speak Te Reo.

  • Gather feedback from our audiences and manuhiri to capture views, concerns, and aspirations they convey during their visits to us, and share feedback and insights for the benefit of organization strategic and operational planning, as well as to drive improvements for visitor services.

  • Manage all aspects of wellbeing, health, safety, and security across our six experiences, ensuring a zero-harm culture.

  • Partner with others to develop new and improved systems and practices across the suite of people management systems, including proactive recruitment strategies, improved team communication, and a best practice induction program.

Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheako | The essential skills and experience for the role

  • Evidence of experience in a senior management role in a visitor or customer services environment.

  • Strong commitment to Māori values, culture, and tikanga, with the ability to incorporate these into daily operations.

  • Proven track record of managing teams and delivering exceptional visitor experiences.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.

  • A qualification in tourism, hospitality, business administration, or a related field would be advantageous to a candidate but is not essential.
