The role | Te tūnga
This role is fixed term for 12 months based in Wellington. Reporting to the security uplift programme with Stats NZ your focus is on architecture and design to address the use of cloud providers, systems, middleware, and application needs. You'll have input to the planning, design of cloud application, server, storage solutions and security, and build strong relationships with the wider Technology Services branch. Your team includes the principal security architect, senior solutions security architect, senior business analyst (security), change manager and project manager who are responsible for the security uplift programme within Stats NZ.
This role would suit someone who can bring:
A security-first mindset with the ability to embed privacy and security by design across cloud-based systems and application deployments.
Proven experience collaborating across teams—working closely with delivery teams, infrastructure engineers, and data specialists to ensure secure, scalable solutions.
Strong documentation skills to clearly outline implementation plans, procedures, and evolving security standards for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Deep understanding of cloud security protocols and the ability to apply and continuously refine internal and industry-aligned security standards.
Experience monitoring and maintaining compliance across cloud and development environments, using proactive approaches to identify and mitigate risks.
Capability in risk analysis and mitigation, bringing a security lens to project risk registers and contributing to practical, scalable procedures based on assessed risks.
Familiarity with certification and accreditation processes for new platforms and tools, including vendor and third-party engagement.
