We are seeking a talented and collaborative Designer to join our Design team within our Products & Channels group. In this 12-month fixed term role, you will help create engaging, user-centred digital experiences that are inclusive, accessible, and impactful. Based in Wellington, you'll work alongside other designers, product owners, developers, researchers, and marketers to turn complex challenges into simple, innovative solutions that support learners, communities, and employers nationwide.

This is a fixed term role for 12-months to cover parental leave which is based in our offices in Wellington.

He angitūtanga: About the Role

The key product you will be working on for the duration of the fixed term is Tahatū Career Navigator which is s a dynamic digital platform that helps people take control of their career journey, from discovering their strengths and interests to exploring real-world job pathways and building personalised career plans.

In this role, you will help shape products and services that are intuitive, accessible, and truly reflective of the needs of New Zealanders. You will collaborate closely with product owners, developers, researchers and TEC's marketing team to bring insights together to create designs that not only look great but make a real impact. In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality UX and UI design for responsive websites and digital media

  • Translate user needs and business requirements into engaging design solutions.

  • Contribute to design systems to ensure consistent brand and user experience.

  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, marketers, writers, and researchers to bring ideas to life.

  • Support researchers with user testing sessions to validate your designs and make sure they meet user needs

  • Promote inclusive, accessible, and equity-first design approaches.

  • Stay ahead of design trends and champion user-centred design within the organisation.

  • Produce resources for print.

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for:

We are after someone with a passion for design and a knack for turning insight into impact. You will enjoy working collaboratively and have a strong focus on designing for all New Zealanders. You will bring:

  • At least two years' experience in UX and/or UI design for digital products.

  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).

  • Experience creating flows, sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and designs.

  • An understanding of human-centred and interaction design principles.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive web design.

  • Strong storytelling and communication skills to bring others on the design journey.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of how websites are built, Content Management Systems and handover to developers is preferred, but not essential

  • Ability to create icons and illustrations is preferred, but not essential

  • Experience document formatting PDFs (e.g. tagging for accessibility) is preferred but not essential

The salary range for this position starts from $86,769 up to $102,081 + 3% KiwiSaver depending on demonstrable skills and experience.
